Presenting the Children's art contest winners!
We are pleased to announce the winners of the children's art contests sponsored as part of the celebration of the grand reopening of the Whitewater passenger depot.
In the contest for children in kindergarten through second grade, the first prize winner was Stephanie Wence, a kindergartner at Lincs. Second prize was awarded to mallory Brodell, a second grader at Lincs. And yes, the Wence family is obviously very talented - Stephanie and Marco are brother and sister!
In the contest for children in third through fifth grades, first prize went to Samantha McKelvey, a third grader at Washington Elementary. The second prize winner was Chris Dressler, also in the third grade at Washington. Third prize was awarded to Youana Guerrero, who is in the fourth grade at Washington.
The judges for the contest were Deborah Blackwell, director of Studio 84; Renee Melton, Associate Professor of Art at UW-Whitewater; and Dawn Hunter, retired art teacher. The judges' criteria for choosing the contest winners were craftsmanship, creativity, and use of color.
The contests were a splendid success. Thirty-two children entered the Grade 3-5 contest, and the Society received 108 entries in the K-2 contest. All of the children's pictures will be on display in the Whitewater depot throughout summer, and the Society encourages everyone to come see their colorful and creative artwork.
