7:00 Annual Meeting
The Whitewater Historical Society’s most important meeting of the year is coming up next Wednesday. The Annual Meeting is an opportunity for you, the member, to vote on officers, let the Board of Directors know how they are doing, and have a say in how the society will operate in the coming year.
It is a tradition that we start with a pot-luck. Just bring a dish to pass, anything, really, home-made or store-bought. After the pot-luck the Annual Meeting will begin. The following is the agenda for the Annual Meeting.
- Call to Order.
- Adoption of Agenda.
- Minutes of the 2013 Annual Membership Meeting
- Introduction of 2012-2013 Board Members.
- Review of 2012-2013 Activities
- Treasurer’s Report
- Presentation of Slate of Board Nominations and Election
NOMINATIONS FOR EXPIRING TERMS:
Vice-President: Alan Marshall
Treasurer: Gregg Gauger
Director, 3 year term: Linda Robinson
Director, 2 year term
- Highlights of coming events for 2013-2014.
Grand Reopening Celebration
The Grand Reopening Celebration on April 28 was a great success. It is estimated that 200 people were there. The depot looked great, the band was great, and the weather was great! In all, a “great” day.
Summer Depot Hours
One of the most important things the society must now do is to have the depot open to the public for more hours. Here are the minimum hours the Board of Directors agreed that the depot should be open this summer:
Sundays and/or Saturdays 1-4
Thursday evenings June 27 and July 11-August 15, 6:00-8:00
Special Events at Cravath Lakefront Park: Pig in the Park, June 15; Fourth of July and Car Show, National Night Out, August 6.
It would also be nice to have the depot open another weekday, all we need are volunteers.
Web Site Wins Juried Award
The Whitewater Historical Society web site, designed by Kate Dodge, a UWW graphic design student, has won an award for best web site design at the MAGD Expo. MAGD Expo is an annual juried show for video game design, web design, audio, 3D modeling and animation. This year the theme was “Our Town.” The judges mentioned that they were especially impressed in how the web site was designed and created using an open source Content Management System such as Joomla. While some of us don’t understand this technology, those that do found Kate’s work outstanding. We took a while to get on the web, but when we did, we got an award-winning site.
Not gone to the web site? Please do. It is at www.whitewaterhistoricalsociety.org. The more people who go to the web site, the higher its ranking will be in search engines. There is some good historical information on the site that you might find interesting, as well.
Due to the pressing needs of the depot grand reopening, your membership director (and newsletter editor, secretary, and depot curator) never got your receipts to you, so you will find them in this newsletter mailing. Obviously, the newsletter editor was wearing too many hats, so another of the society’s board members, Renae Prell-Mitchell, is taking over this job. You should be getting your membership receipts in a timely manner from now on.
