January 2011 Newsletter

January, 2011                                                                         Volume 8, No. 3

It’s Membership Month!  All members will receive this shorter newsletter in print form this month.  We are also sending the newsletter to those who have purchased bricks for the depot renovation.  We hope you will consider supporting us with a membership.  Please use the attached card and envelope to send in your annual membership (remember, it is still at the bargain basement price of $1) and any additional donation you may wish to make to support us.  Additional donations go toward paying our heat and light bill, purchasing supplies for our museum reinstallation, and other needs that keep our organization going.  In the near future, we will be announcing new membership levels, so get your $1 membership while you can.  Thank you in advance!

NEXT MEETING

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 26, 2011

7:00 p.m.

Starin Park Community Buidling

PROGRAM:

Whitewater Breweries and Breweries in Wisconsin

Special Guest: WAYNE KROLL, author of “Badger Breweries Past and Present” and “Wisconsin Breweries and their Bottles”

The Whitewater Historical Society has a real treat for its January program.  Noted brewery historian and author Wayne Kroll will talk about Whitewater’s Breweries and other Wisconsin breweries.  The history of the beer industry is fascinating, and at one time almost every town in Wisconsin had a local brewery, and they produced a wide variety of types of beer.  This should be a great program, well worth a mid-winter evening.

FREEZE FEST

Freeze Fest will be held on February 19th this year.  The depot will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. as a warming location and for visitors to see the building without the artifacts.  It is well worth a look, so if you have not seen the interior, come on February 19th.  We would like to have the Stone Stable open as well, but need a couple of intrepid volunteers to do so.  If you can stand being in the cold for an hour or two (if it is bitter cold, we will not open the stable), let us know.  Contact Ellen Penwell at 262-203-6529 or Carol Cartwright at 262-473-6820.

The newsletter will be back next month with a bigger and better edition!
